2nd Annual

 Farewell Bobby Fischer

New and Improved for 2009

Anybody who played in the 2008 Farewell Bobby Fischer, knows that the 6 rounds that were crammed into one day made the tournament run late, and drag on to a point where it was simply bothersome for the players.  It reached a point where time for lunch was minimal at best, and there were a few players who had to choose between eating, and competing in the Trivia Contest.

For 2009, those problems have been SOLVED.  The Open Section will have their tournament spread out over two days, with time controls that are a bit more worthy of higher level chess.  (The 3 fastest time controls of last year, G/33, G/43, and G/50 have been done away with, so that the "element of chance" is reduced.)  The fastest time controls this year are G/58, two games of which will take place on Friday night.  That way, with only 4 rounds, Saturday can be dedicated to a more acceptable pace of quality chess, a truly fair amount of time for luch, and competing in the trivia contest without having to scramble.

Simply having an U-1200 Section is an improvement!  This has been provided for a number of reasons, not the least of which is, that it is nice to offer less experienced players the opportunity to play some rated games against other players of similar strength and skill.  The U-1200 Section has had their time controls changed this year so that the players, and their families, can get home at a reasonable time!

There will be numerous class prizes, as well as a       "Top Female" and "Best Upset" in EACH section!
